WHERE CHATTERS GO TO TALK ABOUT OFF TOPIC STUFF!
This is not going to be a full preview of the WWE Money in the bank PPV that is going on this Sunday, rather, just my thoughts on the rather novel way the WWE is presenting the two MITB matches themselves.
Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, the WWE had to change how it did business. This is no surprise, everyone has. However, for me, the two best matches of Wrestlemania weekend were a direct result of those changes. The WWE, for it's biggest PPV of the year, pre-produced two matches: The Graveyard match between the Undertaker and AJ Styles, and the Last Man Standing match between Randy Orton and Edge. Rather than just hold the matches in the empty Performance Center ring, they treated those two matches as TV productions instead. They pre-taped them, which allowed both matches to be professionally edited, to give the performers the opportunity to plan spots on the fly, to allow them to "rest" in between takes, etc. What we ended up getting, were two matches that came across like they were movie fight scenes. AND IT WORKED. And that leads us to MITB. While there will be matches still held at the empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, the two MITB matches themselves are being held at WWE Headquarters, in Stamford, Connecticut. The matches will start at ground level, and the performers will have to battle their way up the stairs to get to the roof, where a ring is set up with two MITB briefcases suspended above it, and lots of ladders surrounding the ring. But, here is the real kicker: The two matches, the men's and the women's, will be happening concurrently. Both the men and women will be fighting through WWE HQ at the same time, which leads to the possibility (ie, guarantee) that there will be crossovers between them. The women will get involved in the men's match, and men will get involved in the women's. These matches have likely been taped already, or will be taped today or tomorrow. I am just very curious about 1) how destructive they will allowed to be with the WWE office space, and 2) how "cinematic" of a feel the match will have. If they do this right, they could give us one of the most memorable matches the WWE has ever produced...or they could royally screw this up, and give us a match that we will be snickering about for years to come... - Dave
